Treats with a Twist
Birthdays—they only come once a year, so we always want to make them special! We’re sharing a few chef favorites for healthier alternatives to cake that will help take your birthday (and other celebrations) to a new level.
Luscious Layers
Take the layered approach for this dessert, serving them in individual portions! With your favorite fruit and yogurt, add layers of healthy breakfast cereal, crushed graham crackers, angel food cake cubes or even animal crackers for a special sweet treat. Added bonus: Layered cups can hold a birthday candle or two!
Small But Mighty
Not ready to give up cake altogether? Go mini! Bake your favorite cake batter in mini muffin tins or mugs and go light on the frosting to keep portions in check. If you need ideas, try our 5-minute Mug Cake. The cake base calls for honey which adds a hint of sweetness.
Stick with the Fun
Frozen fruitsicles, no-bake energy bites and cake-pops, oh my! Think of festive ways to decorate sweet kabobs or add new twists to make them special (pretzel stick skewers, anyone?) If you’re feeling extra creative, fruit “bouquets” are another way to go.
