Great Grains to Start (or End) Your Day!
Whole grains (think oats, farro, barley, brown rice, and pastas and breads made with 100% whole-wheat flour) are great for so many reasons. Read The Whole Story on Whole Grains to find out more.
We love whole grains so much that we’re sharing three tasty recipes below — pick one and get your whole grain baking going.
Bran Flax Muffins
Don’t let the name throw you! These muffins are moist and packed with flavor. Made with a mix of whole grains, ground flax, shredded carrots and apples, raisins, and a hint of cinnamon, these would be great for breakfast or as a mid-day snack.
Multi-Grain Waffles
Here’s a good reason to bring that waffle iron out of the cabinet. Whole wheat flour, flaxseed meal, and corn flour provide texture and nutrition while nonfat yogurt, honey, and a little vanilla add moisture, sweetness, and great taste. Impress the family at your next weekend breakfast or brunch.
Whole Wheat Banana Bread
Who doesn’t love a slice of freshly baked banana bread? This recipe is super-easy to make and celebrates whole wheat flour for extra texture and nutrition. Add nuts or raisins if you like. If you have extra bananas, slice them into thin rounds and press them on top of the loaf before baking.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
