Pick Up Some Berry Good Ideas
Summer is peak berry time. There are so many tasty, juicy berries at their freshest right now at markets, pick-your-own farms, and roadside stands. Here are just a few reasons and ways to enjoy them.
Berry Benefits to Take to Heart
Berries are some of the healthiest foods you can eat! They’re high in fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants—and have been linked to heart health.
A Fresh Take on Salads
Sure, berries are an easy choice for breakfast, as a snack, and as a dessert. But don’t forget other meals. A handful of berries adds sweetness and color to a salad. And the juices in fruit like berries can help you cut back on the salad dressing. Need more inspiration? Try this recipe with whole-grain farro, berries, feta, and kale in a tangy lemon dressing.
Save (and Savor) Them for Later
Too many berries? Not a problem! If the summer brings you a bigger bounty than you can handle, save berries and other summer produce for later. Just wash and dry berries and freeze them in a single layer to keep them from sticking together. Once they’re frozen, pop them in a storage bag or container. They’re especially great in smoothies right out of the freezer.
