Establishing Exercise Habits
Summer is here and we’re all ready to get outside more! We’re diving into a few expert-approved ways to build healthy exercise habits through the warmer months.
Plan for It
Working out at the same time each day or establishing a regular schedule makes it easier to turn your best intentions into reality. The most important thing is setting yourself up for success. If you’re not a morning person, don’t plan on getting up for a run before the sun rises. Run in late afternoon or early evening. As a bonus, the evening hours are often cooler, so you won’t have to worry about the scorching mid-day sun.
Fuel Your Body
Whether you’re doing a quick 30-minute workout or in it for the long haul, make sure you’re properly fueled before you start. The timing of your workout can really influence your pre-exercise nutrition needs. As a tip: All pre-workout meals should be complete with carbs, protein, and healthy fats.
Do What You Love
You don’t have to limit yourself to thinking only “exercise” counts towards your fitness goals! Enjoy the things you do every day that keep you moving. Find your strength and balance in the ocean waves or beat the heat swimming in the pool. And have fun! Figure out what summertime activities you enjoy (scheduled workout or not) and do more of them.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
