Every Season Is Safety Season
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter-food safety is in season all year long. We huddled with our culinary experts to share tried-and-true tips to shine a light on Food Safety. From produce washing to freezer storing, learn how to keep your meals as fresh and safe as can be.
Rinse and Repeat
So fresh and so clean! Although you may be eager to get cooking with your fresh produce, be sure to take the time to wash your bounty. Rinsing with cold water helps remove dirt and germs. But remember: Meat and poultry do not need a bath. Spare your kitchen sink from the raw juices that can cause cross-contamination. Just make sure to cook meats to proper temperature (see below).
Grill Master T
The ‘T’ is for thermometer, the most important tool in cooking. Once you know the temperature your food needs to reach, test its progress with a thermometer before considering it done—on the grill or in the kitchen. Take a second look at the safe minimum cooking temperatures of common foods if you have any doubt.
Hero Below Zero
Do you ever have a craving for strawberries in the winter? Fear not! Your freezer has you covered. Save your favorite warm weather produce by sealing it in freezer-safe containers. Be sure to label them with the date and store them in the deep chill so you’re all set for the next meal.
Note: Since everyone’s health history and nutritional needs are so different, please make sure that you talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to get advice about the diet and exercise plan that‘s right for you.
